Reflejos de Cuba is a series inspired by Cuban art, culture and history. Each work reflects elements of Cuban life translated through the lens of the diaspora in the United States. The work investigates connection through distance — home as a place of longing and belonging, of being at one with all the identities one can hold simultaneously.
I utilize artmaking as a form of communication and interpersonal connection. These designs reflect on how spirituality, culture, and history define our sense of home. Through pairing imagery from the Caribbean with my own symbols, I investigate what it means to be part of a multicultural diaspora living in the U.S.
