Caminando en Sus Huellas
Series Statement

This series is inspired by tiles of Cuba and Puerto Rico, the birthplaces of my ancestors — and by the colonization of these lands by Spain, a country that was previously ruled by the Moors of North Africa. The art we see under our feet carries the influence of all of these people and places.

Using the templates of my ancestors, I create symbols and designs that speak to identity and culture as part of this ancestral continuum in the diaspora — to explain who we are and where we come from. I place importance in elevating stories of the past, and documenting this moment in time to add my voice to the story.
