from the past to the future Del Pasado al Futuro
A 9,000-square-foot painted mural in Providence, made with the Amber Art and Design collective. An homage to the Narragansett land called Mashapaug, with the moose as symbol of fortitude and sustainability.
Del Pasado al Futuro evokes the history of the land — now called Providence — before colonization. The area where this mural is installed was known to the Narragansett people as Mashapaug and Moshassuck, for hunting moose. Moose sightings today would be rare; we chose the moose as a symbol of fortitude and sustainability, a way of caring for and being one with the environment.
It's an homage to the past while looking forward to a sustainable future. The mural is located behind the Garrahy Judicial Complex and dedicated to the city of Providence.
